Truly great songwriters are an incredibly rare thing. I was going to say commodity, but I don't

consider, I don't even like songs to be commodified and I think songwriting is an unbelievable craft

and also sort of a magical gift and Brandy Clark has written some of the best songs of the last

long number of years. To me, she's in a tradition of songwriters like Towns Vanzant, Dolly Parton

and as good as they come and her songs are popular in their time too, which is with Towns wasn't

always the case. Brandy, thanks for being here. Oh, thank you and thanks for that. I mean,

can I take you on the road with me? That was a really nice intro.

Well, you know, I rarely say yes when I'm pitched for a podcast, but like your manager or somebody

like sent, I were like, would you be interested in this? And I said yes so quickly because

I'm fascinated by songwriting and I asked a couple people what makes you great. And so I asked

Darius Rucker. I was like, why would you want to write with Brandy? Darius, my pal, and he said,

I'm dying to write with her because she's so real and her voice makes you believe. And I asked Shane,

who I know as you're like bestie, what it is. And he said, she's the world's best listener.

Everyone who works with her feels heard. I could talk for hours about her empathy and her soul.

I love her. Oh, that makes me a little bit teary. That's so nice. That's so nice.

Yeah, and I must be so great to have your peers think of you and your work and you as a human in that

way. It is, you know, I mean, honestly, I didn't, I wouldn't even know that Darius Rucker was aware of

me. So that's a really big thing. He cut a song actually that Shane and I wrote on on a record of

his love without you. That's one of my favorites. So the fact that he even thinks of me as pretty big

and cut a song of mine is even bigger. But and then Shane, you know, I have a real soul connection

with Shane, you know, he has said before that we see the world the same way. And that's why we
