Welcome back to On Script. I'm Matthew Bates.

In Revelation 1, 4 through 5, John addresses the seven churches which are in Asia,

Karas Humeen Kairanei, as he gives the greeting grace to you and peace, the traditional Christian greeting.

And then he continues from there using Greek that some have identified as barbaric.

Apaha'an, Kaiha, Akhani, or Khamanas.

And John says, from the one who is and the one who was and the coming one.

But he breaks Greek grammar in speaking in this way.

What is John up to?

Why would he do this?

And he continues from there to speak about this very one also being the one from the seven spirits, which are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, the witness, the faithful one, the firstborn from among the dead ones, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
