Bougainvia plant. This is a plant that I grew up with as a kid. My mom was absolutely obsessed with it. I hated it and that's because it can get out of

control. It can be a little unwieldy and spiky and it's sometimes annoying at

least if you're a kid running around the yard

and you'd rather have a little bit more freedom in the backyard

but these days I've got some Bougainville on my property right now

it's a solid solid tropical vining plant. Now here's something interesting.

In the 1760s the French botanist

Filiberton discovered the colorful binding plant.

He named it after his friend and Captain Louis Antoine de Bougainvie, who was a noted lawyer, mathematician, and explorer from Canada.

So that is the little history of why it is called that.

So how do we care for this bad boy? Well the thing that's most interesting

about the Bougainvia is that they are drought tolerant, they thrive in

basically any type of potting soil, they will get a little out of hand if you don't watch them.

So, what do they need to live?

Well, lightwise, full sun is completely fine.

If you want them to bloom very vividly,

they need at least five hours a day.

More hours is better when it comes to their blooming.

Temperature-wise, they are hardy throughout most areas as long as temperatures are around

70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit in the day and about 60 to 70 at night.

That is their optimal, optimal zone.
