Hello everyone. Welcome back to the podcast. Today we're doing a house plant. We're doing a

fern. In fact, we're doing the most popular of all ferns that anyone grows indoors.

And that is the Boston Fern, also known as Neprolepus Exaltata.

Very fancy name for the Boston Fern. I personally prefer the name Boston Fern. Today let's talk about it. I'll be

honest with you. I've had some trouble with Ferns in the past. I no longer have trouble, but

when I first started growing houseplants, that was one of the problems.

That was one of my problem plants was the fern.

And it's probably a problem for most people.

You know, I get a lot of questions about ferns on the website and so I figured

you know let's go ahead and talk about it. So why do ferns present so many problems?

Well in general they like a lot of humidity and so a lot of plants that we grow indoors

are fine with normal indoor humidity levels. However, ferns all prefer higher than normal humidity. And so there's two ways

that you can solve this. One way is to use a humidity tray which usually means putting your plants on a tray of rocks with

water and so that some evaporation goes down and then you have a sort of higher humidity zone around that plant.

That's one way to do it.

Most of the time though, people grow Boston ferns and hanging baskets

and so you can't really do a humidity tray there.

You can technically but it's just going to you're going to need to gerry rig the basket a little bit.

So most people don't do that.

So one way that you can combat that is to use a humidifier.
