Good morning and welcome to the Independent Republic of Mike Graham right here on the Home of Common Sense.

It is, of course, the one and only talk radio. It's a big day

for Boris Johnson as he seeks to reinvent not only himself, but the entire country. After three

days of a pretty feel-good conference in Manchester, he's addressing the Tory Party faithful

with talk of getting on with the job, leveling up the country, building up the minimum wage,

and reconstructing the economy. And whatever

you say about the Prime Minister, he does exude a kind of Teflon confidence, doesn't he? Yesterday

he even suggested that government was not responsible for fixing everything for people, the

first proper conservative value he has rallied behind for quite a long time. But as Philip

Johnson said in the Daily Telegraph this morning, the Tories can hardly

believe their luck. Whether it will last is another matter. This morning we'll be hearing

from Casey Perry, a former communications chief for Theresa May and Boris, of course, about his big

set piece speech. And she's already making headlines this morning for being spotted dancing

with Michael Gove last night. Is there anybody who hasn't danced with Michael Gove? Any chance he'll mention the French? I think you can bet your bottom Euro. People are talking

about war across the channel. I think that's probably slightly overreaking the pudding or the

souffle, whichever you prefer. But the French are being rather ridiculously French about the

fishing dispute from the threatening to pull the power away from the Channel Islands once more. Boris will take to the stage around midday. Before that, we'll be crossing

live to Jamie Jenkins in Wales, where they voted through vaccine passports last night by a margin

of just one after a Tory assembly member wasn't able to make his Zoom link work to vote against it.
