This question comes from Ray Ann, and she said, so I'm seeing this guy really like,

who's older than me and is a pretty well-known musician slash composer. I just moved to New York City, like 10 minutes from him, and we're going on some dates beforehand,

and he was planning future dates. But now that I'm close by, I'm afraid I'm being demoted to, like, booty call with all the benefits of talking all night, the intimacy, blah, blah, blah. So what can I do to flip the script so he sees me as someone a little bit more serious than that? This is a really good question.

And I feel like I get a lot of, you know, messages from you guys that have this ripple,

this undercurrent of nihilism, helplessness, fatalistic. It's like, I don't know, I'm just

falling into this category. I don't know. How did it happen?

It comes down to one simple truth. What we permit, we promote. No one becomes a booty call by accident or without their permission. We aren't just like pulled by magnetic force into an Uber at 1130 p.m. on a Thursday. We make conscious

decisions, right? So we can't act like this is all up to him or all up to like, you know, just

fate or something like that. It's not. It's very much up to you as well. If you don't want to be a

booty call, don't be. If he stops making dates, you stop answering

his text messages. If he wants to act like a fuck boy, he's going to get called out like a

fuck boy. And if he balks and tries to make you feel like, oh, because he's older and more

important than you, like you should lower your standards. You should just be lucky to stand

in the light of his, like, penis. You walk away. You call that bluff because that's what, like, dating kind of is. It's a series of bluffs. Like, I'm going to say that this is what I require and hopefully you meet it. And if not, fuck. Like, then I'm going to have to decide, like, do I walk away or do I just like, well,

all right, I guess I'll be a booty call?
