The film follows Molly and Amy, two overachieving high school seniors who try to make up for their all-work and no-play

attitude by cramming four years worth of partying into the night before graduation.

Book Smart is Ms. Wilde's feature film directorial debut.

Following a recent screening of the film at the Harmony Gold Theater in Los Angeles,

Ms. Wilde spoke with director Nicole Hollafsena

about filming Book Smart.

During their conversation, Ms. Wilde discusses how she helped the two leads, Beanie Feldstein

and Caitlin Dever, establish the close friendship necessary for the film, convincing producers

that the animated Barbie drug trip sequence was absolutely necessary,

and how disappointments often led to great ideas.
