0:00.8 | Welcome to the Sports Motivation Podcast. This is your host, Nees Showbo. Today is an episode of books and bars, and I am breaking down a book, a very, very impactful book. And I actually came across the author. Her name is Olivia Fox Cabin. I came across this author from an interview that she did with Ramit Sati, who was someone who I followed and learned a ton from from a marketing standpoint and helped me a lot as I transitioned from my job to my business full time. |
0:31.4 | But I checked out her interview. I really enjoyed it and I got her book. It's called the charisma myth, how anyone can master the art |
0:37.9 | and science of personal magnetism. So she's a charisma coach. She works with politicians, |
0:44.0 | business leaders, actors, entrepreneurs on how to build more charisma. And oddly enough, I expected |
0:53.3 | to kind of read a book that was, I wasn't really sure what I expected when I read the book, honestly. |
0:59.2 | But I was surprised and happily surprised when so much of what she was teaching had so much to do with athletes. |
1:08.5 | And not just athletes, but how you perform under pressure. |
1:12.6 | And I was just really, really in alignment with what she was teaching and I loved it. |
1:16.6 | And I especially loved how many tools she gave and how practical she is and how she applies |
1:21.6 | these things. |
1:22.6 | Because a lot of times it's kind of a difficult thing to say you teach someone charisma, right? But she's able to |
1:28.3 | take these ideas that seem sort of up in the clouds and really bring it down to a practical |
1:33.0 | level in a way that really resonated with me. And so what I want to do is share with you an excerpt |
1:39.3 | from her book. It's actually on page 59 in case you want to, in case you buy the book, which you should, |
1:45.7 | she actually goes through a checklist on how to rewrite reality. And so what she means by that |
1:50.8 | is at any given time, there's events that happen in our lives. And it's our interpretation |
1:56.8 | of these events that lead to the emotions that follow. And the emotions are what caused us the pain and cause us to perform in a way that is not conducive to what we want. Right. So obviously, we need a way of interpreting these events in a different type of way that allows us to deal with the reality better so that we can stay poised and calm in high |
2:19.1 | pressure situations and ultimately perform the way that we need to. So she goes to this checklist |
2:24.6 | and it's super, super great. So let me read it to you. She says, number one, take a deep breath and |
2:29.0 | shake out your body to ensure that no physical discomfort is adding to your tense mental state. |
2:35.0 | So let's imagine that you're in a tense mental state because of something that happened. |
2:39.0 | First thing, take a deep breath and shake out your body. |
