Summary

A woman stuck on a tarmac downloads 'Book Lovers' and falls down a rabbit hole into the delightful romcom realm of Emily Henry's witty banter, heartfelt storylines, and endearing characters. Now that the woman (me, it was me on the tarmac) read all six of Emily's books back to back during her travels, this pod presents a brief summary of each. No major spoilers beyond a discussion of plots and general observations, along with which of her books I liked best and why. BONUS: An ill-fated journey to Casa Bonita

Books Discussed: Beach Read (2020), People We Meet on Vacation (2021), Book Lovers (2022), Happy Place (2023), Funny Story (2024), Great Big Beautiful Life (2025)

Welcome to the high and low podcast.

This is your host, Bravo, Bravo, Ducking Bravo.

And this podcast is going to be all about a hyperfixation that I got that forced me to read six books in a week.

0:16.2

Now, I'm a fast reader, and I love books, but I don't think I've ever read six books in a week before.

0:22.8

But when I was sitting on a tarmac, I was stuck on a plane and I said, I have to,

0:27.5

I have to mentally escape this. I have to go somewhere. I downloaded a book that I kept

0:32.4

seeing the cover of called book lovers. And to say that I liked that book would be such an understatement. I loved that

0:40.3

book. Book lovers. And so after that point, I was like, what else she got? I'm picking up what

0:45.6

she's putting down. So from there, I went to Funny Story. And from Funny Story, I did a great big,

0:52.0

beautiful life. Great Big Beautiful Life took me to beach read. Beach

0:56.0

Read, happy place, happy place to people we meet on vacation. And now I consider myself somewhat of a

1:01.3

scholar on Emily Henry Romcom books. So in this podcast, I'm going to give you a synopsis,

1:06.4

very brief, high-level tree tops of each book, each plotline, and then the ones that I loved the most,

1:12.4

the ones that I wasn't a fan of and why. Now, my vacation, let's just get that out of the way real quick because I said I would talk about it. It was so dramatic. We were only supposed to be gone for like four days, but a day and a half of that four days was spent either on a tarmac or in an airport or city that we weren't supposed to be in.

1:28.0

I'm not going to call it a vacation because it really wasn't.

1:30.2

It was an adventure.

1:31.4

We went to... was spent either on a tarmac or in an airport or city that we weren't supposed to be in.

1:28.0

I'm not going to call it a vacation because it really wasn't. It was an adventure. We went on a

1:32.1

Montana adventure. We were just trying to get to Glacier National Park. And that is difficult because

1:38.1

there's not a lot of direct flights into where you got to get to in Montana, so you've got to connect.

1:43.6

Now, a connecting flight is something

1:45.0

I normally do not do. Oh, oh, you're too fancy for a connecting flight. I am. I'm too old and too weary. I'm too crabby. I'm too mean. Don't put me on a connecting flight. I've been traveling my whole life. I used to travel for work. I learned early on. It ain't worth it. Throw the money at it. It's not worth it to do a connecting flight if you can help it.
