0:13.0	At the same time, I also think this notion of speech being harmful has become very elastic and expansive in problematic ways.
0:23.0	That's Suzanne Nassel. She's the CEO of Penn America, a nonprofit organization that, quote, stands at the intersection of literature and human rights to protect free expression in the United States and worldwide.
0:42.0	Penn is known for its association with the world's most celebrated writers, founded in the 1920s.
0:48.0	Its first members included Willa Cather, Eugene O'Neill, and Robert Frost.
0:53.0	And in recent years, it has supported and honored authors like Margaret Atwood and Solomon Rushdie.
0:59.0	So it's not surprising that Nassel and her team have been in the front lines of the fight against bookbans, which are on the rise in school districts across the country.
1:08.0	I spoke with Nassel about those bans and the people behind them, but we also had a broader discussion about the state of free speech in the United States.
1:16.0	And we broached some sensitive questions like, does the political left have a free speech problem?
