Summary

To celebrate the fourth (!) anniversary of Hello Monday with Jessi Hempel, we're sharing a series of bonus episodes featuring some of the advice that Jessi has implemented into her own life. On today's bonus episode, Jessi shares some of her favorite advice from her conversation with Tiago Forte. Tiago is the author and creator of online course Building a Second Brain, which focuses on capturing, organizing, and sharing knowledge using digital note-taking. Tiago tells Jessi how the simple action of transferring our thoughts onto an external medium that we can refer to, can reduce stress, remind us of insights, provide inspiration, and create a valuable resource for the future. Jessi walks us through how she makes use of these tools and what using a digital second brain has done to improve her life. Follow Jessi Hempel on LinkedIn and check out her debut memoir! Follow Tiago Forte on LinkedIn and learn how to build your own second brain here. Subscribe to the HelloMonday newsletter and join our community on LinkedIn!

LinkedIn News Hey, it's Jessie coming at you with a short Thursday bonus episode.

0:31.3

You know, we've always done that every once in a while. When we have a little something extra

0:35.7

to say or something we'd love you to hear, we drop you an episode on Thursday. But honestly,

0:41.9

it's been a while since we've had a Thursday episode.

You know, now the show has been around for four years. Four years this month, it's our

0:51.1

anniversary. We have more than 200 episodes. And I've been reflecting on just how much I've

learned personally from the people that I've interviewed. You know, I talk to all these people with

so many good ideas and strategies for how to excel in their careers, how to do work better,

1:09.0

but also how to do life better. And some of those strategies really don't stick for me.

1:14.4

They just don't work. Maybe I'm not the kind of person who could apply them.

1:18.4

Like, I'll give you an example. I love talking to Adam Grant and everything he has to say feels

1:24.2

like a good idea, but I just don't seem to have the discipline that Adam has. His ideas don't

1:29.7

always work for me. Like that idea he has about batching emails that ask for favors and then

1:35.2

answering them all at once once a week. I'm just not organized enough either to set aside

1:41.4

those favors as they come in or to devote the consistent time of a week on a calendar to answering

1:46.3

them. That's cool. I mean, maybe that episode was really perfect for someone else, right?

1:52.8

But then every once in a while we interview someone and unexpectedly what they have to say just

1:58.0

really sticks. It works for me. It makes things better for me.

You know, my mornings are kind of chaotic and frantic. If we all get up on time and if the
