Hi everyone. Today I'm speaking with Genevieve Jones Wright, a public defender who will be on the ballot June 5th for the Office of District Attorney in San Diego County,

a place of 3 million people in Southern California on the border with Mexico. Although it's gone blue in the past three presidential elections, San Diego was traditionally a Republican stronghold, deploying such monsters as Duncan Hunter Jr. and Darrell Issa to Congress.

All five members of the board of supervisors are Republican and they just voted to support Trump's lawsuit against California Sanctuary Law.

The elected sheriff is Bill Gore, who's most famous for being the head of the FBI field office in charge of Ruby Ridge and being the fifth to Congress when asked about that event.

And the DA is appointed a incumbent summer stefen, the handpicked replacement for longtime DA Bonnie Dumontis.

Dumontis may be best known for harassing a man named Gene Slatic, a legal medical marijuana manufacturer using federal forfeiture laws to seize the man's bank accounts with no charges filed.

She also withheld video evidence from the public concerning the police killing of a mentally ill man named Fridun Nahad, going to the mat to defend the officer involved claiming the had had a knife.

He did not, of course. She relied heavily on a draconian conspiracy law that lets DAs essentially charge members of a gang with another gang members crime trying to put a rabra in prison for murder based on lyrics he posted to Facebook.

And she also took 100 grand from a foreign national and legal campaign donation.

She resigned to run for the board of supervisors. Of course we wish her the best of luck putting summer stefen in her position about a year ago giving Stefan a head start in this election allowing her to run with incumbent next to her name in this formerly nonpartisan race.

Shortly after taking office, Stefan rubber stamp for fatal police shootings at the same press conference, including the shooting of Jonathan Cornell, who wish up 22 times while starting to get on the ground with his back to deputies.

She recently received an award from a group campaigning to overturn recent criminal justice reforms passed by California voters meant to reduce penalties for certain nonviolent crimes and reduce the prison population.

Stefan also says that her opponent benefits from quote a Kardashian effect with that let me introduce purported reality TV star Ms. Genevieve Jones right. Thank you so much for coming on.

My first question is do you benefit from the Kardashian effect absolutely not and I really find that commentary very appalling and disgusting.

She's seeking to minimize my experience both personal and professional when we talk about what the definition of the Kardashian effect is she's of course,

harcaning back to this philosophy that certain people get popularity even though they don't have a talent or skill set.

I have more education than my opponent and I have handled serious jury trials at a higher level than she has as far as the number of cases that I've taken to trial in front of juries.

And so she's seeking to minimize my experience professionally as well as my personal experience I'm not sure if you're familiar with the rest of the commentary but what she is also seeking to point to is a video that I recorded when I did not feel safe by sdp officers when they were following me I was racially profiled and so for her to liken my incident of being racially profile by some of the questions.

And so I think that by sdp officers to a leaked sex tape is especially appalling and so both my professional experience and my personal experience has been under attack by this opponent who was clearly out of touch with the issues in sdp county and all over the nation that are facing people of color and poor people.

So what do you mind discussing that incident for our listeners?

Absolutely I was leaving the beach area of San Diego after attending a memorial service for a colleague of mine who passed away and I was one of maybe two or three African Americans there in attendance even though we all left at the same time all of the memorial service goers left at the same time I was single out and I was first followed by one patrol car.
