Welcome to gender reveal, a podcast where we hopefully get a little bit closer to understanding what the hell gender is.

0:21.6

I'm your host and resident gender detective, Doug Woodstock.

0:33.4

Hey, everyone. I hope you've all been hanging in there.

0:36.6

If I sound a little sick, it's because I am a little bit sick, and I'm sorry to record while sick, but great news.

0:43.3

It is not contagious through a microphone, so you're safe.

0:46.7

We will have a full episode for you next week, but in the meantime, I'm here to talk about this year's festivities for Trans Day of having a nice snack.

If you're not familiar with Trans Day of Snack, no worries. We have made a bonus episode about

1:00.8

it every year since 2022. There is also, I believe, a gender spiral episode where I talk about it,

1:06.4

as well as articles in Vice and Pop Sugar. If you are familiar with Trans-Aaf Snack, you might remember that we

1:11.9

tried a new approach last year. In the past, TransnDNAF snack involved me logging hundreds of

1:17.6

individual donations on a Google sheet and then deputizing some of my friends to help Venmo

1:23.7

a little bit of snack money to more than a thousand trans people every year.

1:31.6

We pivoted away from that model last year for a few reasons.

1:37.7

One is that that just was not a sustainable approach in terms of workload and scope and finances.

1:43.5

Another reason is that the amount that we were pulling in from donations went way down in the last few years.

1:49.0

I think that's because people are rightfully prioritizing people who are in mortal peril over snacks. Totally. No worries.

1:51.0

A third reason that we pivoted away is because I was still being haunted by Dean Spade saying in a gender reel episode that Vemowing

2:01.5

Strangers is like the least community building form of mutual aid, which is so true. And yet,

2:07.1

now as much as ever, trans people do deserve a little treat for like staying alive. So this year

2:12.7

for Trans Day of Snack, we are going to take the same two-pronged approach that we took last year,

2:17.3

part one, option one, for fans of the classic Trans Day of Stagan and having a nice snack model.

2:22.9

We'll be sharing a graphic on Instagram for you to fill out and repost.
