James Acaster here, comedian and music fan, and in 2017, I had a breakdown.

I dealt with that breakdown by buying as much music from 2016 as I possibly could.

As a result, I now own over 600 albums that came out in 2016, and I'm convinced

it's the greatest year for music of all time. But it's not enough me being convinced. Also want to

convince each and every single one of you. And in this bonus episode, I hope to make my case

even stronger. If you're already a listener to the podcast, you'll know that in the bonus episodes,

we'll take the album that we talked about in the main body of the podcast,

and we'll explore it a little bit deeper.

Sometimes we do that by interviewing the artist themselves,

finding out the story behind the album.

But on this episode, what I wanted to do was explore one of the instruments a little bit deeper, the recorder.

The recorder.

On surface to wear a missive's album, A.V., Taylor Ross heavily explores the recorder,

choirs of recorders all over this album.

He was obsessed.

He was playing a recorder on every single song.

It's an instrument that often gets overlooked. I want to understand it better because this album made me

want to know more about the recorder and want to stop, just disregarded it. So in order to

understand the recorder a bit more, I taught to Netty Rhodes. Netty Rhodes is a recorder player

and a teacher. She's very passionate about the recorder. She's keen to promote this often misunderstood instrument and believes that the power of the recorder can bring people together from a diverse range of backgrounds. Netty runs an award-winning recorder group for children in the London borough of Lambeth called Sweet Recorder Consort.

She offers tuition and reduced fees to make it as inclusive as possible.
