with your host emma daughter thanks for joining in today's bonus episode we're talking all about

0:12.6

the post-exylic prophets when i say post-exylic i'm referring to all of the prophets who came after

0:19.1

israel's return back home to Israel, their land.

0:22.2

Now, you may have noticed that we're not reading these prophets in our reading plan this year.

0:27.1

We're skipping them. We're only reading the books that move the story forward, or said differently,

0:31.9

the historical narrative books. That said, here's what we would be learning were we to read

Next, we get the book of Esther, in which we see Esther advocate for the Jews as to prevent them from being annihilated.

0:56.4

Third, we encounter the book of Nehemiah in which we see a third wave of Israelites return home to their land. At this point in the

1:02.5

Only this time, they weren't quite as glorious as they were initially.

1:16.1

Now, to set the scene prophetically, we've got to think about the prophets that came before

1:21.5

the post-exelic ones. The pre-exylic prophets were told the coming judgment of Israel,

1:26.7

the Assyrians, the Babylonians,

1:28.5

they were going to rise up and conquer the Israelites if they didn't repent from their sin,

1:33.2

which newsflash, they didn't repent. And these consequences came upon them. That's why they went

1:39.0

into exile. But additionally, the pre-exilic prophets also foretold the coming of Christ that one day, despite the consequences God's people were to face, a ruler would come and usher in a new era.

1:53.2

For example, Amos 9-11 reads, and that day I will restore the fallen house of David.
