Summary

You knew you were going to get an MLB Trade Deadline bonus pod! Let's go through some winners and losers of the deadline. Loser alert! The Texas Rangers opened a new ballpark this year and had to become sellers. The New York Yankees didn't make a move! What!? The Cleveland Indians traded away Mike Clevinger! WHY!? How about the winners? The San Diego Padres are the big winners of the deadline. Landing the big fish in Mike Clevinger was the move. This team is ready for October. You all think I hate on the Marlins.. I don't! The Miami Marlins are winners! A deal for Griffin Conine was good. Getting Starling Marte was good! For some teams not making a move is makers you a winner. The Los Angeles Dodgers were that. They are that good, no need to make a trade. --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts.   Follow David on Twitter: @DavidPSamson  To watch David on CBS Sports HQ visit https://www.cbssports.com/live/ To hear more from the CBS Sports Podcast Network, visit https://www.cbssports.com/podcasts/ https://www.youtube.com/nothingpersonalwithdavidsamson Learn more about your ad choices. 0:13.2

pod. You knew that I was going to come back and talk about the major league baseball

0:16.9

trade deadline. Most exciting trade deadline of any sport. It happens teams think they're

0:22.2

in it. So they bring on guys. They're out of it. They need to shed money. They bring

0:25.8

on money. It's a constant fight between the owner and the GM and the president. You

0:30.8

have to speak to the guys in the clubhouse because certain players like today Jonathan

0:34.5

Valar was in the Marlins game as they were beating the mets. Knock knock. The phone call

0:40.1

comes from Miami where Mike Hill, the president of baseball operations has just traded Jonathan

0:44.7

Valar to the Toronto Blue Jays. Excuse me. You need to pull him from the game. Go get

0:49.9

on maddenly and then get him out of the game. Because if he gets hurt, then he can't be

0:54.2

traded. Out goes Valar. He's headed north of the border. Actually, he's not north of

0:58.9

the border anymore. It's actually to Buffalo with the Toronto Blue Jays. Let's get into it.

1:04.9

Let's talk winners. Let's talk losers who really lost today. Let's start with the Texas

1:11.1

Rangers. They lost in a way that I understand. They opened a new ballpark this year. Globe

1:19.6

life field. Their total attendance this year is worse than the Marlins attendance was

1:25.9

at Marlins Park. It's first year. I never thought that would be possible that someone would

1:31.6

open a ballpark with smaller attendance than what I did. But it actually happened. Their

1:37.2

total paid attendance in 2020. Zero. I feel terribly for them. So they put a team together

1:46.9

to open a ballpark. They signed Mike Minor. They had Lance Lynn. They traded for Corey

1:52.2

Clubert. They had Joey Bats, Joey Gallo in their lineup. They really felt as though they

1:57.8

were built and ready to win. And then the pandemic hit and then they couldn't hit.

2:05.0

And then the pandemic stayed and they couldn't pitch. So the Rangers said sell more to
