Before we transition, we wanted to give you one more gift. This episode wasn't originally planned for the Negotiate Anything feed — it's an interview Kwame did on Trent Shelton's podcast, and it might be one of the most personal conversations he's ever had. And I think when you ask most young people, they say, I want to help people. There's like no focus to it, you know? And at first,

it was through psychology. That was my undergrad degree. Then I had a brief foray into being

1:16.1

interested in politics. So that's what led me to law and master public policy. Thankfully,

1:20.8

that was short-lived. I think that's a good choice for my family and mental help. But for me,

1:26.6

I always had trouble with tough conversations.

1:29.0

I was a people pleaser for a long time. And it wasn't until I got into negotiation,

1:33.6

in a negotiation class in law school, that I realized this was a skill, not a talent. I could

1:37.7

actually get better at it. So we had these negotiation competitions, and I participated in it.

1:42.3

And my partner and I, we won the competition at Ohio State that That gave us an opportunity to represent the school at the American Bar Association competition in Ottawa, Ontario. We won that too.
