And while John Wayne may have sailed off into the sunset many years ago, he apparently

missed his private yacht after he departed.

But death didn't stop him from coming aboard for a long time after his death just to make sure things were ship shape.

John Wayne had always loved the sea. Some say that he became an actor by default when his hoped for career in the Navy didn't work out.

This might explain his attachment to the wild goose, his private yacht, which he used to escape from the pressures of his

Hollywood career. He was born Marion Morrison in Winterset, Iowa, but his family moved to California

when he was a boy. While living in Glendale he received his lifelong nickname.

His dog and Airedale Terrier named Duke often walked with him by the local fire

station and one of the firemen started calling the boy little Duke.

He liked the sound of it and years later when he received his first screen

credit in a movie he used the name Duke Morrison.
