You're listening to a bonus episode of On the Tape, and we thought this was important to do.

0:06.8

Just a little bit of background.

0:08.1

I met Rebecca Jarvis about 16 years or so ago in Englewood Cliffs at the headquarters of CNBC.

0:15.3

And although other people might have been first to the Theranos story without question,

0:22.5

I think she's been the leading voice and she's been tireless in her work literally now for years. So we wanted to have her on as sort of

0:28.2

the epilogue of the story, Danny Moses. Yeah, Guy, I wasn't as lucky as you were to have known her

0:33.3

that long, but you did make the introduction to her for me. And I was involved in her GameStop piece,

0:39.0

which was a story obviously about what happened with GameStop and AMC, et cetera, early last year.

0:43.4

With this, I mean, she knew about Theranos as early as 2014 when she was working on just

0:48.3

blood testing companies and she'd heard about this company. I don't think she had claimed

0:51.8

there was fraud at that point, but she was aware of it early.

1:00.2

She started doing this podcast called The Dropout in early 2019 and stuck with it. Last episode was episode 19 all the way through. And I will tell you, and she'll talk about this, obviously, in the

1:04.7

episode, but she was one of the people even during the trial, and maybe that's because she had

1:08.5

followed it for so long that actually thought she was going to be found guilty. And she was correct. I mean, she was guilty on four counts of

1:14.2

fraud. Three of the other 11 counts were deemed to be mistrial. And the other four fraud, which really

1:18.7

had to do with the patients, she was found not guilty. So what's interesting now, and we'll hear this

1:23.0

from Rebecca, obviously in this interview, is what comes next? The Sunny Balwani trials coming next and we won't

1:28.4

get a sentencing until after that is done. So a lot more to play out here, but excited to talk to

1:33.2

her obviously now and fresh off of the heels of this verdict. For me, this speaks to, and I'm sure

1:38.7

Rebecca will have some thoughts on this as well. This speaks to money free-flowing, people not doing their due diligence,

1:46.5

the emperor has no clothes, all those things come into fruition in all walks of life. So not only

1:52.1

in necessarily politics, in some ways in sports, but this is happening right before our eyes
