We left our home in Brooklyn on Friday, and I don't know when we'll be back.

My wife and I put the baby and the dog in the back of the Subaru, and I sat right between

them, with the dog's head on my knee while I read books to the baby.

We drove 19 hours to her hometown in Mississippi.
