Summary

In early 2020, Denison Forum interviewed Mark David Hall, author of Did America Have a Christian Founding?: Separating Modern Myth from Historical Truth

As Matthew J. Franck wrote, Hall’s book is “a fresh look at the very real extent to which Christian thought and belief played a vital role in the making of our country.”

In this bonus episode, Hall discusses the separation of church and state, the religious natures of the Founding Fathers, and why religious liberty still matters today.

So I've done a dozen academic books, either written or edited, But this is my first book for the general reading

1:52.2

that it's clear and concise and very easy to understand whether you have a background in history

1:57.2

or not. And why do you think it struck a chord with so many people?

2:02.9

You know, I think if you look at the academic literature and a lot of the popular literature,

2:08.8

just time and time again, scholars are popular writers who should know better, say things like

2:14.1

most of America's founders were deist. They created a godless constitution.
