Summary

Yesterday morning, like many of you, I woke up to the devastating news that a convicted rapist with countless indictments has been re-elected to lead our country. As I sit with this heavy reality, I'm thinking of all of you—especially women in difficult relationships and those in marginalized communities facing fresh threats to our freedoms.

Today, I turn to a Zen Buddhist saying to help me keep going: "Chop wood, carry water." It reminds me that there is nothing you must do in life other than what must be done. So today, I stare into the void, speak to women, reassure my son, and cuddle my animals.

Chop wood, carry water.

And later, I will continue the fight.

Please know that I will never stop fighting for you, for us, for our children and their futures.

Hey, everyone. I am recording this on Wednesday morning, November 6th at 849 a.m. And the election results are in, and what I consider to be the

worst has happened. And if you're listening to this podcast, my guess is that you feel similarly.

1:10.0

And I had a podcast episode all lined up for today,

1:15.1

and it just felt wrong to really air anything other than an acknowledgement of what has

1:26.0

happened in the last 24 hours. Also to say that however you are

1:32.1

processing this and whatever you're feeling is correct, is okay. I know people right now who are

1:43.5

having trouble getting out of bed. I know people who are

1:47.1

clinging to hope. My ex-husband texted me this morning and said that he was rereading

1:52.5

Victor Frankel's man's search for meaning, which is about finding hope from a man who was in a concentration camp in Austria during World War II.

2:05.5

And that's what he needs right now. He needs to cling to hope. And I have no idea. I am numb. I'm in shock.

2:16.2

I really honestly didn't believe this would happen. I certainly didn't

2:20.2

believe it would happen in the numbers that it happened and the demographics that it happened from.

2:31.0

I am really, really sad to live in a country that really doesn't value the lives of women, of queer people, trans people, other marginalized groups.

2:46.9

And I shouldn't be shocked by it because this country was built on the foundation of just that.

2:54.4

This country was built on the foundation of slavery and genocide and white supremacy.

3:00.5

And here we are.

3:01.6

And so, you know, one could say that the experiment failed.
