The Street Rout is a screenwriter, producer and author of Bollywood Kitchen.

The son of Indian immigrants who settled in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he grew up on a diet

of Indian home cooking and rented Bollywood films, screened in a borrowed college-footed

dormant for the small expat community.

I remember as a really young kid, we would go to the Greyhound bus station in Harrisburg

late at night and wait for a bus to pull out into the station and then out of the bottom

of the bus would come these huge wooden film canisters that had been shipped from India

and these were the only images of home that they would be able to see for years at a time.

Before three tells us more about authentic Indian food, I speak with chef Alison Robachelli

about donuts on the front lines of war.

Alison, how are you?

I'm doing well, thank you.

Before we get to the donuts, there were a lot of volunteer organizations, religious

organizations, the YWCA, the Jewish welfare board, the Knights of Columbus, people who

were volunteering many of them women to help out just behind the front lines.
