I think it was some educational conference. And he remarked, he said, I've never seen a group of

professionals who are in competition with one

another, who are so willing to share their trade secrets, you know, their, their ideas, what it is

that makes them successful. He said, everyone's completely open and no one tries to hide.

And if we go back, I mean, what is jazz?

And when I say what is jazz, I'm not excluding rock.

I mean, rock, pop, all that comes from jazz.

Sure.

The drum set is a jazz instrument.

And jazz comes, you know, it's call and response but it's

storytelling and if we trace it back to its African roots it's all about the story being

relayed from one generation to the next so we're not only paying it forward because we've all received that.

It's just built into the nature of the music. So I think it's in the DNA of people who

enter in and become part of the stream of the music that you share what you know. and if you don't you're a dick right so what

you're saying is saxophone players are dicks no no no on the contrary uh i was only focusing on drummers
