I'm blessed again today with these 80 people in the spiritual mentoring program

who have committed themselves to learn more about the spiritual life

and how to help others grow in their spiritual life.

And we've spent the whole day learning about the great Catholic teaching on meditation,

meditation on the Word of God.

So let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

and let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Today we reflect on the second beatitude.

Blessed are the meek.

That's why Jesus said,

learn from me, for I am meek and humble in heart.

The poor in spirit corresponds to humility,

but then comes meekness.

Meekness is the calm power

that harnesses anger and directs it to good.

Anger is one of the God-given passions or emotions,

and it's a source of energy and power to achieve something difficult or arduous, to change what is bad or evil, to endure something that is unchangeable

is the power of resistance in the soul to resist evil and to resist despairing and giving up.
