You’ve heard us say it before. The Black vote is powerful. But the two-party system wasn’t designed to actively engage our needs. So how do we reclaim our power in a political ecosystem that takes our vote - our power - for granted? Today’s guest has the insight necessary to begin answering that question. Candace Hollingsworth was the first Black mayor of Hyattsville, Maryland, and founder of Our Black Party, an independent political group whose mission is to advance a political agenda and address the needs of our people. We'll explore the history of independent Black political parties and the political actions we must take to reclaim our power. 1:01.4	to step down, and she formed an organization that will soon become an independent political

1:07.7	That's right, Candace now serves as a co-national chair of our Black Party, a group that
1:14.2	exists to advance a Black political agenda and address the needs of our people.
1:19.9	We deserve better, y'all.
1:21.7	So as we wrap the season that's been focused on fighting forward, let's talk about what
1:26.6	we deserve and the political actions we must take to go get it.

1:40.6	Black Liberation to me is more about what it feels like, it's what I don't have to worry
1:45.5	about. I was telling a friend of mine, not too long ago, actually, they were asking if
1:51.4	I felt that my kids would want to get into the work that I do if they wanted to get into
1:55.8	politics.
