| 0:38.7 | Hello, everyone. Welcome to Slash Film Weekly. It's Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025. On today's episode of the show, we're going to be talking about the latest film and TV news. We'll have a spoiler-filled chat about Blackphone 2, present an interview with co-writer C. Robert Cargill. We'll discuss the new five-part documentary series, Mr. Scorsese, and we'll also present an interview with that project's director, Rebecca Miller. My name is Ben Pearson. I'm an editor at slashfilm.com. And joining me in this first segment is Slashfilm editor, Jacob Hall. Hello, hello. All right, Jacob, there's not a ton of relevant movie or TV news that we could talk about, but there are three stories that I wanted to get into with you here today. So the first one involves Star Wars. |
| 0:43.9 | So Adam Driver gave an interview to the Associated Press where he revealed that not only was he interested in making another Star Wars movie where he reprised his role as Ben Solo, aka Kyla Wren |
| 0:50.0 | from the sequel trilogy, but that there was a director attached, and that director was Oscar |
| 0:55.0 | winner Steven Soderberg. |
| 0:56.7 | And Driver cooked up the idea for this project with Soderberg before Scott Z. Burns, |
| 1:02.6 | who was the longtime collaborator of Soderberg and a filmmaker in his own right, ended up |
| 1:07.9 | writing the script. |
| 1:08.8 | And they were all happy with the script. |
| 1:10.7 | They pitched it to |
| 1:11.3 | Lucasfilm. Presumably, Kathleen Kennedy was happy with this as well. And then they had to get |
| 1:17.9 | final approval from Bob Eiger, the CEO of Disney. And Eiger and Alan Bergman, the co-chairman of |
| 1:23.8 | the company, said no to this project because, quote, they didn't see how Ben |
| 1:28.3 | Solo was alive. So what do you think about this situation? This is ridiculous. This is one of the |
| 1:34.6 | greatest depictions of somebody burning a bag of full of money I've ever seen. Star Wars is such a |
| 1:43.7 | weird, rough place right now and struggling for |
| 1:46.0 | to regain its foothold in pop culture in a way ahead, |
| 1:50.1 | you know, |
| 1:50.2 | a decade ago. |
| 1:51.5 | And this kind of talent, |
| 1:52.9 | this kind of project, |
| 1:53.6 | feels like such a smart win-win for everybody involved. |
| 1:56.5 | You got, |
... |
