Summary

This conversation is like water for the soul, fam.  Today’s episode features the incredible Cole Riley, the creator and writer of Black Liturgies— a project seeking to integrate the truths of Black dignity, lament, rage, justice, and rest into written prayers. Black Liturgies creates a space of sacred welcome. A space of dignity, lament, truth-telling, healing, rest, and liberation.  These liturgies have been a healing balm of love and light for Black Christians in dark times. Cole shares her heart about the discipline of centering Black voices, what she has been learning in her work, and the healthy stewardship of her platform.  You can follow the project on Instagram @blackliturgies. Also, check out Cole’s exclusive prayer series, written earlier this year onThe Witness website.  God of the Dust: https://thewitnessbcc.com/god-of-the-dust-an-ash-wednesday-prayer/ God of the Desert: https://thewitnessbcc.com/god-of-the-desert-a-lenten-prayer/ God of Sorrows: https://thewitnessbcc.com/god-of-sorrows-a-lenten-prayer Thank you all for your continued support of our Leave LOUD series of blogs and podcasts! As you know, follow at your own risk. And I have to be honest with you, I'm feeling good today.

0:34.0

I'm feeling good because I think this conversation that we're going to have is going to bless you,

0:38.8

uplift and encourage you. And I'm so excited to talk about today's guests. But before we get

0:44.7

to that conversation, let me just make a couple of comments about the last month. Over the last

0:51.0

month or so, we have been sharing our leave-loud stories. And let me tell you, I believe I can speak

0:56.8

on behalf of Jamar and Ali when I say, your comments, your encouragement, your affirmation

1:02.9

has been overwhelming. We've been stunned by all the texts and the comments and the messages

1:08.3

and the emails. And we cannot read them all. It's true. We can't. But we value each one of them.

1:14.6

And it has been a tidal wave of uplift and affirmation and dignity. So thank you. Thank you so much.

1:22.8

There are a lot of ways to judge podcast effectiveness. We prefer one over some of the others.

1:29.2

Some of the others are you can measure podcast effectiveness by tangible numbers. You can talk

1:35.3

about downloads, right? In which the last month has been a massive download month, probably the

1:40.8

highest single downloaded month in past the mic podcast history. We can talk about iTunes charts

1:47.2

and placements and awards. And we've been occupying some of those charts over the past

1:51.9

few months. And all those are good and they matter. But we actually value intangible measurements,

1:58.8

much, much more than tangible measurements. We don't do this podcast so that we can say we have

2:05.2

this many downloads or we can say we occupied this particular chart placement on an iTunes

2:11.6

podcast chart. No, we do this so that you can be seen, valued, heard, and loved. We do this for

2:19.6

you, Black Christian. We do this for you who is wondering how to tell your own leave loud story.

2:26.3

We do this for the people who feel like they're stuck. We do this for the people who feel as though

2:31.6

no one has ever put words to their experience. We do this for you. We do this so that you can
