former Washington editor, Barron's Magazine, now a novelist in Lancaster County, and a mystery.

Bird flu, Avian HN5, as I recall. The news reporting from Kent County, Delaware.

Chickens test positive for bird flu, goes the headline.

More than 120,000 chickens on the farm were impacted by the outbreak,

according to the Delaware Department of Agriculture.

The farmer in Kent County has been obliged to cull his chickens.

The sudden deaths of hundreds of commercial chickens on farm in Kent County

were likely caused by the bird flu, according to the Delaware Department of Agriculture.

That's Kent County, which Jim tells me is mid-state Delaware.

Now we go to the second part of the mystery.

200 snow geese reads the WHTM news. 200 snow geese were found dead of suspected bird flu in the Lehigh Valley as poultry is set to return to the Pennsylvania Farm Show for the first time in three years.

This report dated the second of January. It is now the 4th of January, and we're on the eve of

Pennsylvania opening its farm show in Harrisburg. Jim is in Lancaster. This is a map like radiation in different directions.

Kent County is well to the south of Jim in Lancaster. The geese were found in Allentown in Lehigh Valley,

which is to the east of Jim. The farm fair is in Harrisburg to the northwest of Jim.

There are other complications here, but we're going to stop with that.

The first I hear about this bird flu, a very dangerous threat because it jumps species. As I recall, it can go from

geese to chickens, from chickens to cattle, from cattle to humans. It can do that. You can work

pigs in the middle as well as the transforming of the disease. First, I heard of it was when you

reported it 24 hours ago from the news out of Harrisburg about the snow geese found dead.
