Almost exactly five years ago, in mid-May of 2017, Amber received some news that shocked her.

There is a girl on 23 and me, the DNA test we did.

Okay.

And genetically, she's my half-sister.

Amber learned that she was given life because of an anonymous sperm donation.

She learned that the father she had grown up with for 30 years wasn't related to her by blood.

She was distraught and confused,

and she said to herself,

You need to go home.

The morning after her discovery,

Amber hopped in her car and drove three hours north of New York,

to Albany.

She met her dad in a large park.

All around them, flowers were in full bloom.

It was Mother's Day weekend.

You know, Washington Square Park in Albany, they have this big tulip festival.

So it was like absolutely beautiful.

There were tulips everywhere.

And it just felt weird to just be in this very familiar, very beautiful place and just having

like the weirdest conversation ever with my dad.

Amber and her dad sat side by side on a park bench in Albany,

a city that had been settled by the Dutch back in the 1600s.
