and you might have heard by now, but I have chosen to opt out of this shortened 2020 season.

After four days, we're already having to postpone games due to COVID outbreaks.

Now, I'm not an alarmist, and my opting out was not solely because of the risks of playing during a pandemic.

You know, I've had lingering arm issues that just weren't resolving fast enough to justify continuing to play or try to play this year.

But games being canceled four days in because of an outbreak is

concerning. We're starting a season in a country where cases are not going down, nor cities that

have it contained. Teams are doing their best to keep us safe. Shout out to the Red Sox,

who are truly a first-class organization in that regard.

But guys getting the virus, getting sick, and spreading it is a big problem. And not just because

it means that your entertainment for the night got canceled. These are human beings contracting

a potentially debilitating virus, all while just trying to do their jobs. And I know that you understand.

People across this country are having to do the same thing. Work, protect themselves as best as possible,

get tested, and pray that others are doing the same. Because that's really the only way we're going to

get back to any sort of normal anytime soon. But all of that is

content for another time. Today, we are talking to a new friend of mine who is playing a really

important role in the commissioner's office. Former player, Billy Bean. Billy played for six

years and is one of two openly gay players to have ever played in the league.
