And I learned from our guest at Hotel Mars, George Davorsky, a senior staff editor at Gismoto

that the award that was given to SpaceX in 2021, April of that year, for several billion dollars, is not satisfactory to NASA.

We suddenly learn that NASA wants more and more.

So therein lies the story because underneath all this is a drama between dueling billionaires.

Who knew that SpaceX's award in 2021 was going to be revisited in 2022?

What is driving this? What is the thinking at NASA that a year later they put the bidding back out?

Good evening. Thank you for having me. Well, we kind of knew we were given this hint last year.

He's NASA originally wanted multiple providers, but they didn't get the money they were asking for from Congress.

So they were given a quarter of what they were asking for.

So this forced them to choose SpaceX, which they provided the lowest bid at the time.

And that ended up being the lone provider.

So now a year later, NASA is like, hey, we still want that second lander. We still want that capability.

And what they're doing now, they're asking us companies, everyone but SpaceX can bid on this second lander.
