Memorial Day, a time to reflect with friends and family, is also the unofficial beginning of summer. But there were 16 mass shootings over Memorial Day weekend.

And I'll say it again, 16 mass shootings.

And yet, Republican members of Congress and the conservative majority of the Supreme Court

say it's constitutionally impossible to stop the mass murder of our children and everyone else

because the Second Amendment says so.

I just have to say respectfully that there is a way for us to have common sense gun laws.

There is a way for us to make sure that lawful, responsible gun orders like yourself are able to use it for sporting,

hunting, protecting yourself. But the only way we're going to do that is if we don't have a situation

in which anything that is proposed is viewed as some tyrannical destruction of the Second Amendment.

The Second Amendment is why we can't go to pretty much anywhere without the fear of getting

shot to death.

The Second Amendment is why you can't be immediately arrested for openly carrying around an assault rifle into a Walmart. And why you can't be immediately arrested for openly carrying around an assault rifle into a Walmart.

And why you can't be immediately arrested for smuggling a hand cannon in your boxer shorts to the gym.

The Second Amendment is how law enforcement justifies the need for military-grade armaments to, of course, match the firepower they meet in the streets.

The Second Amendment protects fucking idiots who shoot walls from helicopters with machine guns.

The Second Amendment is why our kids are scared to go to school, and it's way past time for the Second Amendment to be replaced
