Smith and Callie Black. Hello and welcome to Big Picture Monday. My name is Callie Black. You're

0:12.3

with all the context you need to totally rock this week's Come Follow Me readings. This week is May

0:16.2

4th through the 10th and we get to study the book of numbers this week. We are going to study

0:21.0

numbers, chapters 11 through 14, 20 through 24, and 27. Now, believe it or not, this part's crazy.

0:32.0

We are going to talk about all 40 years of wandering in the wilderness with the Israelites this week. And yes, I'm absolutely

0:40.0

serious. As a reminder, let's set the scene here. The Israelites have spent their first year

0:49.0

following their exodus from Egypt at the base of Mount Sinai, right? They have received commandments from the

0:56.9

Lord. They've made covenants. They've received the erronic priesthood. They've built a tabernacle and

1:10.8

And then they get really excited because in the

1:13.9

book of numbers we learn that the lord is telling them it's time to start moving now in their mind they're

1:20.4

like awesome we just get to go to the land that we've been waiting for canaan the promised the promised land. Like, we had a year of preparation, spiritual growth, and now we're ready to go to the promised land.

1:33.8

So that's where their mindset is.

1:35.7

And so as we read this week, you'll see what actually happens and why a lot of wandering has to take place.

1:42.1

So let's talk about the book of numbers in big picture here.

1:46.0

1:52.2

census being taken of all the children of Israel. So they are literally counting how many Israelites are

1:59.0

there. Well, they only count the men, but they count how many male

2:02.1

Israelites there are. That's how they take a census. So that's why it's called the book of numbers,

2:06.7

but just as like a fun side connection, for me, I think of the book of numbers teaches me about

2:13.6

the 40 years of wandering. So if anyone ever randomly asks you, hey, what's the book of
