Welcome to Big Picture Monday.

My name is Callie Black here with all the context you need to totally rock this week's

Come Follow Me readings.

This week is May 18th through the 24th, and we are studying

the entire book of Joshua. We'll be reading specifically Joshua chapters 1 through 8,

and then 23 through 24, basically the very beginning and the very ending of the book of Joshua.

Great stories in this week, And this is such a new beginning.

As I mentioned last week, I hope last week felt like an ending, right? Studying Moses's final

sermons. We're ending the books of Moses. I hope that this week now we're turning the page

into a new section, literally, of the Old Testament with the book of Joshua here.

I want to review briefly what just happened because Deuteronomy was kind of a stop in time as we listened to Moses's sermons.

But in the previous book, in the book of

numbers, we learned that the Israelites had gathered together on the plains of Moab. Moab is right

across the Jordan River from Canaan. And Canaan is the promised land. That is where the

Israelites are trying to go. Why? Because that's where Abraham, Isaac, and

Jacob lived before Jacob took his family to Egypt during the famine, and they had stayed in

Egypt ever since. So they are trying to get everyone back to Canaan, the land of their fathers.

Moses, though, had given his final sermons. He had been

translated, and now Joshua is the new prophet and leader of the Israelites. And here we go. The
