Hello everyone, I'm David Chalien, the CNN political director. This is the Daily DC.

A snapshot in time. That is what a political poll can provide us.

It is not predictive of where we're going to be four and a half months from now,

but it is hugely informative of where we are now and what each

candidate needs to do in order to adjust to try and emerge victorious in November.

Courtesy of the New York Times and Sienna College, we have a brand new national poll among

registered voters that shows Joe Biden with a 14-point lead,

50% to 36%. Again, registered voters nationally. We don't really look at likely voters seriously

until the fall. It's tough to identify people who are certain to show up and vote or mail in a ballot. But with all those

caveats that you don't win presidential elections nationally, the election is still four

and a half months away. This is a broader universe of voters that will actually participate

in the election. All of that being said, Donald Trump is in a world of hurt for his reelection campaign right now.

We're using this New York Times-Cena poll today to dig a little deeper into where his problem areas are,

but it is not the first poll to show this. Our CNN poll showed Biden 14 points ahead.
