The other day I was looking at the meaning of the word decision.

And I found out that the word decision comes from the Latin word meaning to cut off.

To cut off.

By virtue of deciding to go a certain way or do a certain thing, I'm cutting off all the

other possibilities.

By deciding to go and favor one thing or going this way, I am basically being unfavorable and cutting off all the other options.

And that is why when we say a person makes a decision for Christ, that this person is saying

that I receive Christ as my Savior, I obey him as my Lord, and I am eliminating all the other

options of all the other false gods, that he and he alone is the Lord of my life, that he and

he alone is the master of my life, that he and he alone is everything to me. And I'm cutting off

all the others and all the other possibilities. One of the sad characteristics of our postmodern

culture, it's been described as indecisive, that indecision is the mark of our generation.

The people talk and you heard them and I heard them about having all of your options open. Many frown at the idea or the concept of

exclusivity and they want to be all inclusive. They want to have one foot on each camp.

They don't want to offend anybody, and therefore they try to be all things to all people,

and they get going all over the map.

Then there are others who are afraid of making decisions,

and they hesitate about making decisions,

and they end up having other people making their decisions for them, which remind me of

the paratrooper that once was asked, how many jumps do you have to your credit?
