The Bible says of the Lord Jesus that no one ever spoke like him. His words were constantly

gracious words and always truthful words.

And every time he spoke, the people marveled just to listen to him.

And yet, the interesting emphasis that Jesus gives again and again in his preaching and teaching

is not on the speaker's ability, but on the hearer's willingness to receive the truth.

In other words, Jesus places just as much responsibility

on us to receive it as on the preacher to relay it.

Everywhere I go, people say to me,

we need more preachers and we need better preachers.

I think the reality is we need more hearers

and we need better hearers.

That's really the emphasis of Jesus' teaching in Mark chapter number four.

Now, we started with his most famous story.

What he said was the foundation stone of everything else he was going to teach,

which was the parable of the four types of soil.

We talked about being good hearers.

Well, this is a beautiful truth, but as you progress through the end of Mark chapter number

four, he really continues that same theme.
