Hey everybody welcome to today's cold case murder mini. I'm your host Ryan Krauss and let's jump right into this one.

So shortly before 5 p.m. on November 28th 1969, a 22 year old Penn State student named Betsy Yardsma was studying at a campus library in an area called the Stacks,

which was basically endless rows of tall shelves packed with dusty old books

casting shadows of darkness and isolation throughout the space.

It's the type of place that makes you think twice

when you're seated at a table alone.

Losing track of time as a bloated sun

dips below the horizon outside the nearby window.

Its oncoming blackness, smothering the glass and trapping you within.

It's that moment you survey your surroundings, and the shadows are no longer just the absence of light.

They've become vague representations of evil, of your past, lurking around every

corner, and peering with unseen eyes as its prey lingers and ignorance.

This is the moment we all fear, the one that never comes.

But for Betsy Ardsma, these were not just fleeting thoughts of being watched, or irrational

notions that something was out to get her.

It was not the monster waiting in the bottom of the stairs.

No, this time it was real.

At this moment, a man comes up behind her with a knife raised and the next thing normally reported

is that he brought the blade downward in a single swift stabbing motion and

pierced Betsy's heart but if you've listened to my show, you know I'm about to tell you the shit you don't see.
