16 year old Heather Rose Rich was the third and youngest child of Gail and Duane Rich,

and according to her parents, she was as beautiful and sweet as her middle name suggests.

In 1996, the rich family lived in War Rica, Oklahoma, a small town on the border with Texas,

less than two hours north of Fort Worth.

For today's episode, we spoke to Tim Cole, who was the District Attorney of nearby Monte

County, Texas.

That was a very small town, pretty similar to the one that I grew up in

St. Joe, Texas, which is just across the state line from Worica. A very close-knit

community, everyone knew everyone else. I think there was a population of

perhaps 1500 at most.

As you can imagine in a small town like Warica, it's hard to go unnoticed.

But even by small town standards, Heather was a standout.

Known for her outgoing personality, Heather was an honor student at

Orica High School, a cheerleader, and even a nominee for Homecoming Queen.
