super excited we have Bob Romley he's the hops technician at Sierra Nevada Brewing

Company yesterday we talked what are hops in the first place how do they grow how how

do they produce that sort of thing just a basic overview but obviously if if you're

in the beer world and you certainly are bow I'm I'm adjacent to it my brother's

really into craft beer and I'm a little bit less so but I still enjoy it you

obviously know there's the hopheads there's all the guys who are you know into

the specific type of hop that's in their beer and I guess in the agricultural

perspective you know do you have a favorite hop that that you like to grow

yourself well I got to go cascade you know the queen of the hop I have to say it's

then a lot of my favorite beers been around for a while you know I think it's

celebrations one of my favorite and of course you know pale ale oh yeah I think

represents cascade so yeah and at our yard at the brewery it does

real well it's pretty a pretty happy hop where we're at is there a you know like

when we think of tomatoes we think determine it tomato indeterminate tomato or

you think of like a cherry versus a beef steak these sort of categories or

subcategories of the plant in the world of hops is there a breakdown like that

yeah mostly I believe they it's broken down into your bittering hops and then

your aromatic hops okay and within there they have you know your different

levels of acids and lubricant flavorings and whatnot are for different stuff you

know what depending on what stage you put it in the brewing process too so yeah

different cultivars or hops are generally grown for different portions of the
