So we talked a little bit about hops in general.

What are they?

How does this plant grow?

As well as a couple of different cultivars, but Bob, you were saying that there's a specific

region of the country where most of the hops are grown, right?

Yeah, that's correct.

I don't know the exact percentage, but it's something like 80, maybe 90% of our nation's

hops are grown in the Pacific Northwest, particularly the Yakima Valley in Washington.

It's a perfect spot, not too hot, not too cold.

So yeah, that's where most of our hops nationwide come from.

And why is it that they like that particular area climate-wise?

What are the conditions that they're really thriving in?

Well, the Yakima Valley there, it's on the side of a mountain range that doesn't get.

The valley itself is a little bit drier, so hops are real susceptible to different

fungus, particularly powdery mildew and downy mildew.

In the Pacific Northwest, getting a lot of rain, you'll have more problems with that.

Well, the Yakima Valley is a little bit drier, so it kind of prevents from maget go, a

little prevention there from having two wetter soils.
