Summary

These interviews were part of Good Morning, Austin - our daily show from The Running Event in Austin, Texas. Every day, Dylan talked to industry leaders about brand and product innovation shaping the trail running landscape. This week, we'll release a few "Best Of" episodes here in the podcast feed. Todays guests:

  • Clark Morgan & Don Reichelt from Speedland (04:43)

    • Dylan is joined by Clark Morgan, new Director of Brand Experience at Speedland and Don Reichelt, a founding Speedland athlete. They talk about Clark’s background, how he’s now focused on building the brand and community around Speedland, and what’s next for the brand. They share a (sweet!) upcoming prototype that we can’t wait to get our hands on.

  • Larissa Rivers & Tim Myers from Strava (28:28)

    • Larissa was one of the first employees at Strava back when it was a fledgling startup in San Francisco. Her legend precedes her - she’s a real life energizer bunny who crushes her job, being a mom of 3 amazing girls, and supporting those around her to move their bodies and be their best selves. She’s joined by her colleague Tim, who works in Product at Strava, and has played a key role in major updates like the Local Legend feature. They announce a new and very exciting messaging feature that is coming soon - this episode is embargoed until Monday 12/4 when the launch can be shared more broadly.

  • Monica Devreese, Founder of Rabbit Apparel (51:21)

    • Monica is the founder of Rabbit, one of the core brands in trail running. Her limitless energy and passion to build the brand is infectious. They talk about her entrepreneurial journey, how she’s built Rabbit and how the brand is going. Plus, they quickly speak to Erik Senseman’s recent retirement announcement. It’s always great to hear and learn from Monica, we hope you enjoy. PS: She had a really fun off-camera teaser for us after the interview that we’ll release when the time's right. Stay tuned for big things coming from Monica!

Hey friends. Welcome back to the free trail podcast. Of course, I'm your host, Dylan Bowman. And this week, we are releasing some audio from our Good Morning Austin show from last week at the running event, TRE, down

0:26.2

there in Austin, Texas. The whole vision of this show was to cover the industry's biggest trade show

0:32.3

from sort of a B-to-B perspective. We wanted to have people from brands in the trail space to not only add

0:39.4

personality and humanity to these sometimes anonymous feeling companies, but also to get

0:45.9

a boots on the ground picture of what's happening in the industry around product innovation

0:50.7

and where trail sits in the greater running ecosystem and economy.

0:56.1

Today we'll release three conversations.

0:57.9

The first with Clark Morgan, the director of brand experience at Speedland and Donne

1:02.2

Reichelt, one of the founding athletes of the brand.

1:05.1

The second conversation is with Tim Myers and Larissa Rivers, product manager and marketing

1:09.9

lead, respectively from Strava.

1:12.5

And then we'll finish things up with Monica DeVries, one of the co-founders from Rabbit and one of my

1:17.9

personal heroes in the industry. We talk about their respective products, a new messaging feature on

1:24.4

Strava. We talk about Monica's entrepreneurial journey, building community,

1:29.0

and with all of them, we sort of discuss the trail space more generally. This was admittedly a bit

1:34.2

of an experiment for us, a bit different from our typical format, but it was really fun for me,

1:39.1

and I hope you all enjoyed it. We'll have timestamps in the show notes here today, so if you do

1:44.0

want to skip around between the interviews, please check out the show notes and feel free to do so.

A big thank you to Boa Technology for supporting our coverage all week, the amazing fit systems that you see on a lot of trail footwear at this point, including the double dials on every pair of Speedlands. It is scientifically proven

2:02.4

that a great fit system enhances performance, and there's no better fit system on the planet than Boa.
