We got an email from a Bert Show listener who, as I interpret this, is kind of in a mentor role in the office and is wondering if she or he should be super honest with somebody that they are mentoring that just doesn't have the goods, the talent to be as good as they want to be, right?

Hey, Bert Show, how do I avoid breaking the heart of someone that has a dream?

Let me explain.

I've been in the fashion industry for a very long time, over 25 years.

There is an entry-level woman in our office that has

the best attitude about our industry she is eager she takes on every task with enthusiasm

and she is genuinely a very nice person problem is she has zero zero eye for what we do for a living. She's a task,

she's task oriented and is quite dependable. But as much as I try to teach her about our trade,

I know that she'll never be anything except a poor designer. How do I break this to her?

She looks up to me so much.

And if I tell her the truth, it will crush her dream.

I can't recommend her for jobs.

How do I guide her away from being a designer

while keeping her enthusiasm for our industry?

It's not your place to do that.

I don't think it is your place to tell somebody

that their dream is not worth pursuing.
