Summary
This is the first episode (episode 149) we recorded with our dear uncle Bill who passed away on November 10, 2025. He was the #1 supporter of the podcast and gave us many ideas for topics for the podcast and was a guest on the podcast several times. We love and miss you uncle Bill!
We have a very special guest on today's episode, our uncle Bill Brigham who worked for the NFL for many years in the substance abuse intervention program. We discuss the intersection of sports and popular culture, how substance abuse is addressed by the NFL, the Kelce brothers and Taylor Swift of course, the education system as a pathway to professional sports, CTE and more.

| 0:00.0 | Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the Cycle Legal Podcast. |
| 0:04.9 | This is a podcast where we talk about popular culture through the lens of an attorney and a therapist. |
| 0:08.9 | I'm Tess Brigham. |
| 0:09.5 | I'm the therapist. |
| 0:11.0 | And my sister, Brooke, the attorney, is not here with me today because I am just introing one of our next of our best of series. |
| 0:20.4 | So this is episode 149, and this is the first |
| 0:26.4 | episode that we had our uncle, our uncle Bill Brigham, come and join us. So our uncle Bill, |
| 0:33.2 | he worked for the NFL in their substance abuse program, ran it for, I want to say, 20 plus years. |
| 0:43.3 | So he has, we talked to, we had watched a bunch of different documentaries. I think we talked |
| 0:47.8 | about the Aaron Rogers documentary. I think I'd watched the Taylor Swift run. Maybe, I don't know, we, we watched a bunch of different |
| 0:56.2 | things to kind of like get a sense of, right, like what's happening in the NFL. And so it's a really |
| 1:02.4 | interesting discussion about what he saw and what he experienced and what, you know, what it's like |
| 1:09.6 | to be a player in the NFL truly versus kind of |
| 1:14.0 | what we see. I think we only see the Travis Keltsies of the world. And there is this other side to it. |
| 1:21.2 | And one of the other reasons why we're playing it is, unfortunately, if you're part of our |
| 1:26.1 | Patreon, you probably know a little bit more about these |
| 1:28.4 | things, but 2025 has been a really challenging year for my sister and I. We lost our father in |
| 1:35.6 | October, and then about a month later, our Uncle Bill passed away. He is actually our father's |
| 1:41.0 | older brother by 15 months. So this is a tribute to you, Uncle Bill. |
| 1:48.1 | We miss you terribly. You know, I know you are with our father right now, driving him nuts. |
| 1:54.9 | So I guess it's all all meant to be. But this is our, we just wanted a way to share and spread our uncle to everyone |
| 2:03.7 | because we really did love him and he had a lot of great things to say. So I hope you enjoy the episode. |
