Hey everyone, it's Jamie. Today I'm re-releasing an episode of Murderish,

covering a case that's very near and dear to my heart. It's the case of first-grader

Gabriel Fernandez from Palmdale, California. His mother, Pearl Fernandez, was an unfit parent,

completely detached from her children. Plain and simple, she despised her young son and put

him through years of neglect and abuse. Pearl's boyfriend also took part in the abuse,

until it escalated to a point at which young Gabriel's body had sustained all it could take.

Gabriel lost his life at the hands of people who should have loved and protected him.

Gabriel's murder could have been prevented. Cracks in the Child Protective Services System,

many argue, are what landed the young boy in unsafe hands. This case has kept me up many nights,

and as difficult as it is to hear about, I think Gabriel's story needs to stay in the

public's attention in order to prevent this from happening to other children. Please join me as

The case I'm covering in this episode is one that I've said before I would never cover.

I said that because we all have cases that cut us deeper than others, and this is that case for me.

It is the most horrendous case I have learned of, and for my own selfish reasons,

I have never allowed myself to gain any in-depth knowledge of it, because it's just too painful.

But what I've come to realize is that what this young boy went through makes my feelings about

the case completely insignificant. In other words, no matter how tough it is for me to learn what
