Summary

Last year we ran a special event called Your Best Art Year Ever, in which we led 3,500 people through a planning process to ensure that 2020 would indeed be their best year ever. Of course then Covid came along and threw everything up in the air. Nevertheless, life continued and this week, we’re looking back on our plans to see where they went well, where we had to change course, and whether we learned anything that we can take into 2021. Our conversation spans dreaming big dreams, setting clear goals, understanding your motivation, and the need for flexibility when things change. We also answer a listener question from Jennifer, who is struggling with how to stay authentic in her work.

There is a reason though for you why you wanted to work really hard and make that happen and the reason that you did it was because that was so important to you that it was worth putting that time in for.

2020 we're going to talk about what worked, what didn't and you know kind of an average year nothing worked what have you been working on this

0:43.0

kind of an average year nothing really different happened

0:46.0

so it should be fairly straightforward

0:48.0

but before we get to talking about 2020

0:52.0

what have you been working on this week, Alice? I have been working

0:56.2

on some small little blocks, a little bit, just because I've been at home this week, mainly,

1:02.0

because we have had a lot of new things to do to welcome everybody

into connected artist and so that has taken a lot of my time on a daily basis.

1:11.9

I have also had that surprise painting that had the

1:14.8

viewing in the garden. We had to wrap that up and do a special birthday delivery

1:18.3

so that was fun for that. That was really good fun. But I've kind of been working on just developing a few new systems for things and I know everyone's probably going

1:29.1

Ar systems who need systems but my general approach to systems is I don't develop them

1:34.7

until I find that I need them and then when something comes up on repeat that

1:39.6

you keep doing the same thing and you think this is taking a bit longer than it should maybe I need a better

1:46.4

system for this so now is a time that I have been putting a few more things in place to help general workflow and it happens too.

1:56.7

I mean it happens too in the studio from you know when you realize that actually

2:00.9

your framing is a lot more complicated because you've got things at all sorts of different sizes.
