I'm John Bachelor with Judy Dempsey, my colleague.

She is the editor-in-chief of Strategic Europe, a senior fellow, the Carnegie Endowment in Europe.

And in the course of her career, Judy has mentioned to me that she was quite some time watching and living in Israel and the region.

So she's very familiar with the ups and downs of the region the

neighborhood the rough neighborhood that Israel exists in right now there's an

war that's understood as an existential war against elements of the Iranian regime.

There's surrogates, Hamas immediately in Gaza, Hezbollah barrage from the north in these last

hours, very consistent barrage.

And then there are the Hoosies allied with Iran who are bedeviling the Red Sea shipping.

And that includes Israel, of course course because Ilan is a major resupply port for Israel on the Red Sea and the Iranians themselves are hardly silent making provocative remarks about how much enriched

uranium they have and ignoring the IAEA.

And then there are the missiles that are flying from the Houthuthies and Hezbollah. I could go on however

we come now to the Biden administration's plan to resupply Gaza from the sea, 2 million meals a day.

How has that taken the German political class and the media of Judy?

We understand that President Biden has to do something.

They understand that Israel is not going to

budge in terms of facilitating a smooth transportation food to Gaza.

They understand that Biden is also under pressure from even his supporters and non-supportors

over his attitude towards supporting the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu.

So Biden is looking towards the election for the White House and also he's trying to

put pressure on that and now.

In that sense, the gesture and this move is welcome.
