I go to a beautiful summer's day in Berlin with Judy Dempsey. We're looking, however, at the troubles in Europe, not just the happiness of the

vegetation. And the troubles in Europe evolve completely around the Ukraine conflict, which

drags on because Mr. Putin, we're told, talks peace in the morning and another salvo of missiles and drones at night.

The important character here for Germany is a man named Boris Pistorius.

Yes, the new chancellor is refreshing.

Boris Pistorius was in the previous government.

He is a social democrat.

That's right.

He's not CDU.

He's not CSU.

He's not right of center.

He's left of center.

He is the defense minister, was the defense minister, and was kept on by popular acclaim.

His visits to Washington, his visits to Keefe are an important roadmap for where Germany

is headed. We all know that Germany can provide the industry that will rearm Europe. It can also

bolster what is ahead of us in very difficult warfighting in Ukraine. So who is Boris Pistorius? What do we need to

note? Judy Dempsey from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. She's a senior scholar,
