every day, which adds up to around 5,000 a year. There are a variety of circumstances that

lead to a missing person's report. Maybe they don't show up for work or miss a dinner,

whatever the reason, family or friends are concerned and police are called.

Cliff O'Brien is a superintendent with the Calgary Police Service. With nearly three decades of service,

he spent several years supervising the Calgary Police Missing Persons Unit, which falls under the

umbrella of the homicide unit in major crimes.

We don't have a 24-hour rule. You sometimes hear that, that you can't report people for 24 hours.

That's not accurate. But where that comes from is that typically within 24 hours, somebody that has gone missing is located.
